Introduction to the Repainting Process
Kabul’s traffic police chief, Kail Mohamad Gavar, has recently issued a pivotal warning regarding taxi operations within the city limits. Drivers are currently prohibited from utilizing their vehicles until a comprehensive repainting initiative alters taxi colors from yellow to light blue is fully concluded. This significant change aims to modernize the appearance of taxis and enhance the overall transportation system in Kabul.
Compliance and Legal Consequences
Gavar has emphasized the serious nature of this mandate. Taxi drivers who neglect to adhere to the repainting regulations will likely face legal repercussions, as reported by Afghan TV channel Tolo News. He strongly advised all taxi operators to avoid the city roads while their vehicles are undergoing repainting. This caution also extends to those with partially painted cars or vehicles that have had essential components, such as lights or other accessories, removed.
Community Concerns
As this taxi repainting initiative progresses, many drivers have voiced their concerns about its duration. With over 20,000 taxi vehicles already repainted across various regions, including 7,000 in Kabul alone, there is a noticeable urge among drivers for authorities to expedite the procedure. The Afghan Ministry of Transport’s ongoing efforts are crucial as they strive to transform the look of taxis throughout the provinces. Continuous communication between taxi drivers and officials will be vital as the community adapts to these changes.
